Ripeness

Firm, juicy fruit exudes ripeness.

But so do our meetings, our time.

Ideas and feelings grow to bursting

and hang in the air in their fullness.

What to do?  Oh Dear!

If only an idea were a plum,

a relationship a ripe peach!

A yearning that has matured is like

a watermelon, sweet and full of seed.

Ripeness of intent is being on the

threshold of acting, potential doing.

Ripeness of an idea is like having

a cherry, ready for the plucking.

It’s so easy to reach for a ripe apple.

But how to handle a ripe friendship

that is ready to turn into a love affair?
