Doppler found that sound . . . . traveled
in indirect proportion to the . . . . distance
between the noise maker and . . . . the
ear.
The
closer the distance, the louder the sound.

Faraday watched a caged mouse
by day
and had paranoid fantasies by
night:
he dreamed of being behind
metal bars
because something he has done
with electromagnetic force
would make him infamous!
He noticed that while light
shone
right through the metal bars,
an electric arc would not
harm the mouse.
He placed a radio receiver
inside the cage
to entertain the mouse.
Just as he predicted,
the speakers remained silent
when he turned on the
receiver.
In his excitement Faraday
evicted the mouse and
claimed the cage for himself.
