Grey-Bruce Heart Health has chosen the winners of 8th annual “The Beat Goes On” awards.

Once again the nominations received for the Beat Goes On Awards were outstanding.

Judges agree that deciding amongst those nominated was “tough”.

If these nominations are any indication, there is a tremendous effort being put forth in our community to provide our students, teachers, work force and general public the opportunity to live, work and play in heart healthy environments.

This years’ winners are:

Bruce PowerIn the work site category

Over the last several months Bruce Power has adopted an attitude of healthy lifestyle to promote safety and wellness at work. Policies are presently being set up to provide a smoke free workplace.  It has fitness centres in both plants now plus ongoing education on active lifestyles.  Diet is stressed at meeting and presentations and healthy eating habits are part of Bruce Powers Heart Smart Programs.

Walkerton Public SchoolIn the school category

Last year Walkerton Public began to participate in the Movin' On Program (A kilometre club which provides prizes for students who run, walk, snowshoe, or cross-country ski.).  They are also making Healthy Eating and Healthy Lifestyle priorities for their students.

Carole AinslieIn the individual category

Carole Ainslie is a teaching assistant in the Kindergarten class at Wiarton Public School.  She has been instrumental in the annual Jump Rope For Heart Contest.  She has worked with the environmental club, coached a school soccer team and encouraged cross country skiers and cross country runners.

Participating employees of Grey-Bruce Health Services-Meaford Site Group Category

In the past 2 years 20 employees at this site have quite smoking.  They have encouraged each other to quit and to stay non-smoking.  They continue to offer support and to provide information to the remaining staff who still smoke

Each of these winners has been exemplary in the changes they have made towards heart healthy lifestyle choices. Many lives have been influenced by these changes and many more will be influenced over time.

The Grey-Bruce Heat Health coalition would like to thank every one who sent in a nomination. We realize there are many, many more outstanding efforts being made in our communities and we commend each of you. We urge you to continue to……..

……. PUT YOUR HEART INTO IT!     IT FEELS GREAT.
