Ti-Jean

Ti-Jean is a compilation of three stories about the French Canadian folk hero, Ti-Jean (Petit Jean, Bon Jean, Jacques). In the play, King Louis is tired of being the King and decides to retire. First, though, he must find a replacement. So he sends Ti-Jean and his two brothers, Cordon-Vert (who is strong but stupid) and Cordon-Bleu (who thinks he is very smart) on three contests: to capture the Unicorn, to steal the Giant's magic fiddle, and to bring back the most beautiful princess in the land. Ti-Jean succeeds at the first two tasks, but when he arrives back at the palace with a White Cat, his brothers think he has lost the contest.

Regardez—le soleil monte.
It is the middle of the morning.

        The three brothers are off
To see who will be King.
        Qui sera le roi? Cordon-vert?
        Cordon-bleu? ou Ti-Jean?

Only one can be King.
Nous le saurons à la fin de la journée.
