THE SEXUAL ASSAULT CENTRE
OF GREY & BRUCE


The Sexual Assault Centre of Grey & Bruce is a program of The Women's Centre (Grey & Bruce) Inc. and is located in Durham, Ontario. The Sexual Assault Centre provides numerous services to women, and supports people located throughout Grey and Bruce counties.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

The Sexual Assault Centre provides individual counselling at various locations throughout Grey and Bruce counties to women and teens and the people who support them. Support is available for women who are survivors of recent sexual assault as wellas to those who have experienced sexual abuse in childhood.

GROUP COUNSELLING

Group counselling is also available for women age sixteen years and older. A series of workshops are offered bi-annually focusing on issues such as flashback management, boundaries, anger issues, supporting a survivor, intimacy issues, and self-care.

24 HOUR HELPLINE

A 24 Hour Helpline is another free and confidential service that the Sexual Assault Centre of Grey & Bruce invites women with sexual assault issues to utilize. The Helpline can be reached by calling:
1-800-720-7411. We also welcome calls from partners, friends or family members of sexual abuse survivors.

RESOURCE LENDING LIBRARY

Are you doing a school project or would just like some general information on sexual assault or related issues? The Sexual Assault Centre can assist you. The Centre has a resource lending library with helpful and informative books, literature, and videos focusing on sexual assault and associated topics.

PUBLIC EDUCATION

If you require a speaker to present information regarding sexual assault or other aspects of sexual violence to colleagues or students, this can be arranged. You are welcome to drop into the Centre for a visit at 137 George Street West, Durham, Ontario (please call ahead to ensure that someone is in the office that day to receive you.)

COURT SUPPORT

Information around legal issues can be accessed, as well as accompaniment to court proceedings.

ADVOCACY/ACCOMPANIMENT

We advocate for our clients, supporting them in many different ways by providing specific information, helping to identify issues and encourage our clients in keeping a clear perspective. When requested, we can also support you by going with you to the Police or hospital.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE SEXUAL ASSAULT CENTRE

The Sexual Assault Centre is looking for volunteers like yourselves to work on the 24 hour Helpline.

We offer comprehensive training that covers: sexual violence, child sexual abuse, issues of oppression, legal aspects, medical procedures, counselling skills, self injury, suicide, and dissociation.

This volunteer position allows you to work from your home. We provide all necessary information including a referral guide, calling card (to eliminate phone charges) and in most cases, a pager to allow for personal freedom while "on duty".
