There are a number of resources that I have found useful in my research of the Stiver family. This includes some that deal with the Berczy Settlers and the history of Markham Township. Some of these are detailed below. Please contact me for further sources.

Berczy Settlers Gazette. Markham, ON : Markham Berczy Settlers Association. (published twice yearly)

This informative newsletter includes research on the group of settlers as well as individual families. This newsletter is received with your membership to the association. Back copies may be purchased. This newsletter is indexed on the Association's web site. www.markhamberczysettlers.ca

While reading this book, I made the discovery that I was a descendant of John & Anna Stiver. Anyone with ancestors from Markham Township, will find this book very informative. The book includes two lists created by William Berczy (1798 and 1803). It is indexed and includes many photographs.

This transcription includes many Stiver records. Several records give the family as Stover. It is part of the Places of Worship Registers Inventory. [Photocopies of the original records are at the Markham Museum.]

The Stiver Family in Canada, 1794-1994 : Souvenir Guide : Markham Berczy Settlers' Celebration August 20 to 21, 1994 - Markham, Ontario. edited by Russell M. Stiver. Toronto : R. M. Stiver, 1994.

Russell Stiver compiled this collection of family stories and pictures for the 1994 Celebration. It was produced in limited quantities.

A Story of the Markham Berczy Settlers : 210 year in Markham 1794-2004 : a Story of Bravery and Perseverance. Markham, ON : Markham Berczy Settlers Association, 2004.

This booklet introduces the reader to the story of the Berczy Settlers. To celebrate the 210th anniversary of the arrival of the settlers in Markham Township an updated and expanded booklet was published. Contact the association to purchase your copy.
